The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, who has molded and shaped the funk music industry, is going on a cross-country outing titled One Nation Under A Groove Tour! The long-awaited trek includes a stop at the Mess Amphitheater on Thursday, 11th August 2022! The tour’s announcement comes after Clinton's retirement four years ago. But today, he is back, and he’s bringing his music collective, Parliament Funkadelic, with performances by The Motet and Dopapod! George Clinton has been hailed the Godfather of Funk due to his outstanding work as an innovator of funk music. His 1982 debut album, Computer Games, has influenced a new generation of musicians. He, alongside the other legends such as James Brown and Sly Stone, has significantly contributed and helped mold soul, hip-hop, R&B, etc., to what they are today. The debut album not only broke ground but also performed remarkably on the mainstream charts. Some critics rated the release as one of the greatest albums from the ‘80s. After his incredible debut, Clinton released seven more critically-acclaimed studio albums. His body of work earned him numerous accolades, such as the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
His touring agent, Nick Szatmari, who helped create the One Nation Under a Groove Tour, mentioned that Clinton has sing single-handedly done more to push music forward than any other artist. “George has influenced artists across so many cultures, generations, and genres. Our musical lives would not be the same if we never had George Clinton, and this is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to come together and witness first-hand the next chapter of his iconic career being written before our eyes.”
